"Oliver!" Merchandising...
Like the block-buster money spinners of today "Oliver!" was extensively
promoted on the run-up and during it's very long cinema release. An
impressive array of souvenir merchandise was available to fans of the
movie both in cinemas and in stores. Amongst the many items on offer were
souvenir programme books (available in cinemas) children's books,
colouring-in-books, jigsaw puzzles, character dolls to mention only a
few. For that extra special occasion one could even treat one's self to
an "Oliver" hat?

"Oliver!" Multimedia...
"Oliver!" Has been and still is, available on a varied range of domestic
multimedia formats. These formats included: 16mm movie film rental
prints in both flat and cinemascope versions. Not so very long ago, one
could even purchase an 8mm movie film trailer, in cinemascope, to play on one's super 8 home
movie projector. "Oliver!"
appeared on VHS and Betamax home video formats, and laserdisc. The
latter format first saw the release of the movie complete with fully
restored play-in, intermission, and play-out music. A vinyl soundtrack
and tape cassette album was widely available in both mono and stereo
formats in music stores. Today of course "Oliver!" is still available to
buy as a soundtrack CD, and a MP3 music download. The movie can be
enjoyed in almost its full
cinematic splendour on the fabulous DVD format, and of recent date on
stunning Blu-ray disc.
